Who is Blair and why is she dancing?

Blair came to us from a no-kill animal rescue shelter. We were told that she was 2 years old, but our vet said she was probably closer to 5 or 6.

She had apparently had a hard life before we met. She had several broken teeth and her gums were infected. She also had an intestinal infection. We had the broken teeth removed, put her on antibiotics for the infections, and she settled into our home. The original photo from which Blair began dancing.

It did take her a while to learn to trust us. She was very skittish and afraid of almost everything. She would, however, come to me at night if I sat on a footstool in the kitchen and let me pet her for a while. This became known as "kitchen-time", as in"OK, Blair, you want your 'kitchen-time'?" Eventually she came to realize that she could get "kitchen-time" anywhere and at any time.

One day she was in the dining room lying at our feet when Steve took the picture to the right. He loaded the picture onto his laptop and I leaned forward in my chair to look at it. I was viewing it from the side and I said, " She looks like she's dancing! Dancing Blair!" which was a play on "Dancing Bear" from "Captain Kangaroo."

Somehow that evolved into my saying that would be a good name for my company if I ever had one: Dancing Blair Designs. The next day, Steve presented me with the picture which he had turned into a logo with the name Dancing Blair Designs. Thus was the company born.

Sadly, Blair didn't live long enough to see her namesake come into being. She developed Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) and passed away fifteen months later.

Now, her picture looks down on me while I create my designs and I like to think that she's giving me her input. Although she's no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in Dancing Blair Designs.
